  1. the tone is this picture is very down, gloomy, tragic. The expression on the mothers face shows that she has been through alot and the kids not showing there faces becuase they have also been through alot. This photo shows every stress Wrinkle in this womens forehead wich ever elder man or women can relate back to as if it were there own struggle

  2. When I first saw this picture, immediately I felt very down and depressed. This picture really captivates her emotion, which is mentioned above, stressed and worried, because she is obviously looking at something that is making her feel this way. The Great Depression was a huge deal and it caused a lot of people to be depressed and weary. This event in time and maybe her children was probably what caused her to have many wrinkles on her face, to make her look much older than what she already is.

  3. When I saw this picture a few years back, I saw it out of the context of the Great Depression, and even then I immediately felt a sense of helplessness. The children clinging to her, and her gaping afar, just made me feel as if she had lost all hope and was contemplating as to what to do in order to support her family. After finding out about this photo in the context of the Great Depression, I could see her pain even more clearly and still could see that she had worry lines all over her face, making her appear far more aged than she really is, and portraying to us, what poverty can do to a person. And makes us feel as if we were in her position, feeling hopeless with nothing to look forward to.

  4. The depth in this photo is very particular and deep. One can see the stress in your forehead and how her eyebrows are clinched show pain and discontent. This picture shows poverty on a global level and if this doesnt inspire you I dont know what else would

  5. This is probably one of my most favorite photographs taken. Black and white photography is very powerful when taken the correct way and Dorothea Lange made use of the lighting and perspective very well to portray the subjects emotions very well. By the look on the woman's face you can tell that she is upset, stressed, worried, etc. The viewer is able to empathize with her whether you know what the woman is going through. Her clothes are dirty and torn, the childrens' hair is messy and they, too, are dirty. It is obvious that they do not live in the cleanest conditions. This picture can be used to represent many issues, such as poverty, because of the subjects conditions.
